Of Ray City passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at his mother's residence after a sudden illness. He was born to the late Joe Shear and Margaret Shear of Valdosta on September 16, 1947 in Homerville, Ga. He had lived in Lowndes County for most of his life. Gene was a mechanic by trade and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by a son, Timmy Lamar Shear and brother, Kelly Shear.
Survivors Include: Wife, Tammy Shear, Ray City, Ga; Daughter, Odessa & Ken Harris, Ray City, Ga; 6 Grandchildren: Jerica Shear, T.J. & Chase Pendergrass, Gabby Campbell, Faith Cone and Catie Csolak; Step Daughters, Sarah & Thomas Pendergrass, Valdosta, Darlene & Joe Csolak, Pennsylvania; Step-Son, Larry Cone & Ashley Cambell Valdosta; Brother & Sister-in-law, Henry & April Shear, Gainesville, Fl and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with Brother Joseph Brown and Brother Dennis Nobles officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the funeral home.
