Kimberly Ann Tyson, 58, of Hahira, Georgia, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, following a lengthy illness.
Born on June 24, 1967, in Ilion, New York, Kimberly was the daughter of George Dowd and the late Mary Donna Foster Chafin. She was later lovingly adopted by the late Charles Chafin, who raised her and brought her to Georgia. As the child of military parents, Kimberly had the opportunity to travel the world, an experience that shaped her adventurous spirit and love for life.
In 1987, Kimberly married the love of her life, Timothy Howard Tyson. Together, they built a beautiful life over 38 years of marriage, raising a family and creating countless cherished memories.
Kimberly had a passion for the outdoors. She especially loved camping at Cumberland Island with her daughter during her time as a Girl Scout leader. Known as the best-prepared camp coordinator, Kimberly always had everything anyone might need—earning her the admiration of fellow leaders and scouts alike. She also found joy in fishing and hiking through the mountains.
Along with her mother, she is preceded in death by her father, Charles Chafin.
Kimberly is survived by her husband, Tim H. Tyson of Hahira, Georgia; children: Amber Diana Tyson (Josh Young) of Hahira, Georgia and Morgan J. Tyson (Shelby) of Hahira, Georgia; grandchildren: Grayson James Young, Cason Tyson, Anna Tyson, Jaycee Tyson and David Tyson; siblings: Charles Chafin, Jr. of Valdosta, Georgia, Celeste Chafin of Smartsville, California, Cyle Chafin of Chico, California, Eric Chafin (Jeanne) of Jacksonville, Florida, Shevaun Abbott (Rick) of Ilion, New York, and Meaghan Binney of Ilion, New York; father, George Dowd (Dawn) of Ilion, New York; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Shiloh Community Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the church.
