Abner "Abe" Register - 94
Of Lakeland, GA passed away late Friday evening, March 4, 2016, in Langdale Hospice house. Mr. Register was born on September 10, 1921 in Homerville, GA to the late Abram Burton and Susie Long Register. Abe married his wife, Joan, who was an aerial performer with many different circus groups. They traveled together, many miles, entertaining. They opened with the Florida wild animal ranch in St. Petersburg, FL. They entertained children with exotic animals throughout each day. They, later, sold the ranch and moved to Lakeland, GA in 1959. He enjoyed growing and cross-breeding flowering plants. He worked at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. as a taxidermist. His most challenging mount was that of a whale. Mr. Register held 13 types of degrees from his lifetime of travel and experiences.
Along with his parents, his wife, Joan, preceded him in death. Mr. Register leaves behind three children, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00A.M. in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening, Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
