Alfred Eugene Pitzing – 90
Of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville, Georgia. He was born on June 13, 1933 in Barwick, Georgia to the late Albert George Pitzing and Viola Kantinka Chandler Pitzing. In 1951, Al joined the United States Navy and spent two years aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He started with the Valdosta Police Department in 1957, walking a beat on Valdosta’s south side for four years before being assigned to the patrol unit. After leaving the Valdosta Police Department in 1964, he went to work with a probation officer for Judge George Lilly in Moultrie, Georgia. In 1966, Al became a United States Marshall where he retired. Al was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved bird hunting, raising and training his own hunting dogs. He also had a love for deer hunting. He would spend most weekends in his younger years listening to the hound dogs bark through the South Georgia pines with family and friends. Al had a love for baseball and played for the Valdosta Red Sox and All-Navy Team. He was also a certified umpire and enjoyed calling games around the Valdosta area including some of his own child’s games. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Alma Pitzing, Velma Patrick, Mary Lee Price, Hazel Patrick, Katherine Powell and JR Pitzing.
Survivors include his spouse, Sylvia Herndon Pitzing of Valdosta, Georgia; daughter, Alene Dasher (Earl) of Valdosta, Georgia; son, Buddy Pitzing (Teresa) of Valdosta, Georgia; daughter, Rena Brantley (Jody) of Sterlington, Louisiana; son, Lonnie Pitzing (Tena) of Quitman, Georgia; son, Buck Coats (Kayla) of Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren: Cole Bowser (Kailee), Taylor Cruz (Ryan), Chase Pitzing (Angelica), Keeley Crosby (Justin), Jody Scott, Trent Marlett (Haleigh), Chase Marlett; Shannon Knuppe (Keith), Tyler Brantley (Lexy), Tanner Brantley of Shelby Brantley; great grandchildren: Hayden Coats, Zoey Coats, Kam Coats, Bricen Marlett and numerous other great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Wilkinson of Dixie, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in the chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the funeral home.
