Alfred "Al" Russell Barnes – 86
Of Lakeland, GA passed away early Tuesday morning on June 2, 2015 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, GA. He was born on April 18, 1929 in Atlanta, GA to Earlbert Eastman and Josephine Naomi Smith Barnes. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Unity United Methodist Church. His passion for life was his church family and studying/teaching the bible. During his 69 year working career he wore many different hats. He began his career as an Executive in the mobile home industry, became a successful builder and owned and operated First Team Realty. He was the oldest person to get his broker license. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Barnes, and 3 sisters, Mary Garrett, Joanne Horan and Patsy Barnes.
His survivors include: Loving wife of 48 years, Sue Harrell Barnes of Lakeland, GA; 4 Sons & Daughters-in-law: David Alfred "J.R." Barnes of Austin, TX, David O. "Bubba" & Lynn Berryhill of Lakeland, GA, Russell & Janice Barnes of Albany, GA & Paul Barnes of Naples, FL; Daughter & Son-in-Law, Suzanne & David Smith of Laurel, MS; Sister-in-Law, Alice Harrell of Lakeland, GA; 7 Grandchildren: Zachary Berryhill Monica, Andrew Barnes, Neil PerryCyndi, Nicole Barnes, Eric Barnes, Neenah Barnes and Taylor Smith; 4 Great Grandchildren: Tanner Perry, Kalina Perry, Jacob Perry and Finn Berryhill and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Unity United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Springhead Cemetery. He will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to services. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday night, June 5, 2015 at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed online at
