She was born in Lowndes County on April 27, 1918 to the late Herschel and Lilla Comer Barfield. Mrs. Martin was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Her husband, Homer Martin, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday December 1, 2004 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Friendship Cemetery.
