Ansel Norman Cox, 81
Of Valdosta, Georgia, a beloved member of our community, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on December 20, 1942, in Hamlet, North Carolina, he was the cherished son of the late James Edward Cox Sr. and Louise Dunn Cox.
Ansel proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating 20 years of his life to military service, including a notable tour during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he channeled his passion for service into a distinguished career in education, first as a teacher and later as an administrator within the Valdosta City School System.
A dedicated member of Pleasant Way Baptist Church, Ansel was also an active Gideon for many years, reflecting his commitment to faith and community. His legacy of service, both in uniform and in his professional life, leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sandra Cox; sister, Beverlee Larribee and brother, James Edward Cox, Jr.
Survivors include daughters: Yvonne Sullivan (Daniel) of Fairfax, Virginia, Rebecca Parnell of Valdosta, Georgia, Rachel Caswell (Charles) of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Jon Cox of Valdosta, Georgia; sister, Harriett Ann Cannon of Cleveland, North Carolina; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Pleasant Way Baptist Church, 4340 Lakeland Hwy, Naylor, GA 31641with Rev. Bill Watson and Rev. Paul Watson officiating. The burial to follow in the church cemetery, Pleasant Way Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the funeral home.
