Barry R. Thompson Sr.

Barry Rodney Thompson Sr. – 68 of Valdosta, GA passed away on Wednesday August 5, 2020 in his home after an illness. He was born on December 16, 1951 in Charleston, SC to the late Brookey (Hiott) and Samuel Warren Thompson. Barry worked 19 years in the North Charleston District Fire Department and then obtained an associate’s degree in fire science. He was also the Georgia State Fire Marshall. Barry also served on the Pelham and Quitman PD forces. At the time of his retirement, Barry owned and operated Thompson’s Consulting: C&O Investigations/Insurance Industries. Barry was a long-term member of Quitman United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Patsy McCrary Thompson of Valdosta, GA; Children: Barry Rodney Thompson, Jr. of Valdosta, GA, Christopher Ashley Thompson and wife Courtney of Elizabethtown, KY; Joy Diane Holder and husband, David of Valdosta, GA; Siblings: Melvin Thompson and wife Joyce of Charleston, SC, Juanita Schauer of Pace, FL; Grandchildren: David Lee Holder, Jr., Justin A. Thompson, Christopher Rodney Holder, Alexis Rei Thompson, Ares Alexander Thompson, Cillian Aiden Thompson; Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
