Benjamin Marion Freeman, Jr.
August 5, 1940 — April 2, 2026
Quitman, GA
Benjamin Freeman Jr., age 85, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, on August 5, 1940, to Benjamin Freeman Sr. and Evelyn Freeman (Armstrong).
As a child, Ben developed a lifelong passion for fishing. His family holds fond memories of many fishing trips throughout the Southeast.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, the Georgia Army National Guard, and the Georgia Air National Guard. A Vietnam veteran, he carried a deep sense of duty and service throughout his life.
He loved to tinker and had a talent for fixing just about anything. His work in TV repair, an audio electronics store, and facilities maintenance reflected that hands-on skill. He always had a project underway and the tools close by to see it through.
He was a true prankster at heart. If you were his friend, you were fair game. He took pride in out-pranking those around him, and his work stories have become legendary.
He had a love for maps and a talent for navigation, shaped by his time in the military. His directions were detailed and exact, though not always simple for the rest of us to follow. For him, there was no such thing as too much detail. If you asked Ben for directions, you didn’t just get an answer; you got a map, complete with more detail than you knew what to do with.
He loved his family deeply and was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and well-remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Freeman Sr. and Evelyn Freeman, and his brother, David Freeman.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Dawn (Dayna) of Gulfport, Florida; his sons, Michael Freeman (Lisa) of Dade City, Florida, Tony Freeman (Jennifer) of Leesville, South Carolina, and Jonathan Freeman (Jennifer) of Atlanta, Georgia; his grandson, Marc Anthony Freeman; his granddaughter, Addison Freeman; his great-granddaughter, Paislee; his nieces, Jennifer Freeman and Kimberly Power; and his step-grandson Chris Ollerenshaw.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
