Benjamin Lawrence “Larry” Williams, age 84, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026. He was born in Eatonton, Georgia, on December 26, 1941, to loving parents, Benjamin Wiley Williams and Marian McClain Lawrence Williams.
Larry was married to the love of his life, Karen Elaine Derby Williams, for 57 years. During their marriage, they lived for 15 years in Key West, Florida. Together they lived a fun, adventure filled life together. They were both amazing artists who always started a new project. They even owned and managed a blueberry farm for a short period of time.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Larry possessed remarkable talent and creativity. He was an accomplished artist known for his intricate carvings, especially birds, as well as his pen-and-ink drawings, engraving work, commissioned pieces, and the sale of his artwork. His keen eye for detail and dedication to craftsmanship were evident in everything he created.
While living in Key West, Larry also worked in taxidermy at their business, Williams Fish Mounts, where he and Karen further honed their artistic skills. During his years in the Florida Keys, Larry combined his love of nature and the ocean by working as a marine biologist. He found great joy in spending time at sea, snorkeling, and studying the marine environment he so deeply appreciated. Later in his career, Larry served as Director of the Suwannee County Health Department in Florida, dedicating part of his career to public service and the well-being of his community. His diverse talents, adventurous spirit, and creative mind left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael A. Williams, his wife Karen, and his son-in-law, Douglas Larrison.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurie E. Larrison, a brother, Joe Wiley Williams, sister-in-law, Nancy Williams, 2 nieces, a nephew and 7 great nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Bella.
As per his washes, he will be cremated with no formal services at this time. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at musicfuneralservices.com. The Williams family is being cared for the caring and professional services of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta.
