Betty Ann Freeman, age 87, of Ray City, Georgia, passed peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. She was born on February 21, 1938, in Lakeland, GA to late parents, Walter Joe Sangster and Nancy Pearl Skinner Sangster.
Betty dedicated 38 years of her life as a devoted records clerk at South Georgia Medical Center of Valdosta, where her kindness, work ethic, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working with her. Her quiet strength and unwavering commitment touched countless lives throughout her career.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was an active member of Ray City Baptist Church, where she also lovingly taught Sunday School. Her passion for sharing God’s word was felt by all who learned from her.
Betty’s love for music was another reflection of her heart. She wrote three heartfelt Gospel songs that were published by Paramount Studios in Nashville, Tennessee— a testament to both her talent and her devotion.
Above all, Betty adored her family. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally, and her warmth, care, and nurturing spirit will live on in their hearts forever.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Orbin Freeman, her son, Wendell Corey and her sister, Nell Snipes.
She is survived by her son, Stanley Wade of Ray City, GA; grandchildren, Brittaney Corey of Monroe, GA, Lauren Corey of Washington, Josh Corey of Monroe, GA, Kevin Corey of Tallahassee, FL, Amanda Corey of Valdosta, GA, Brandy Smith of Haleyville, AL; great grandchildren, Chloe Smith of Monroe, GA, Michael Smith of Haleyville, AL and Aubrey Haupt of Loganville, GA., and a number of extended family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Lakeland, Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Cemetery.
