Beverly Louise Ziegler Spencer

September 2, 1946 — February 24, 2026

Alapaha

Beverly Louise Ziegler Spencer, age 79, of Alapaha, GA., passed away peacefully at her home on February 24, 2026, after a lengthy battle with chronic illness. Beverly was born on September 2, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Fred and Vera Ziegler. She graduated from Crossville High School in 1964.

She excelled in the rigorous nursing program at Protestant Deaconess School of Nursing (1967), in Evansville, Indiana, and spent many years caring for others with compassion, patience, and skill. Nursing encompassed much of Beverly’s adult life. Many who worked with her in South Georgia remarked about Mrs. Spencer’s stern but fair management style and credited her leadership for honing their own nursing skills. Doctors and staff often admired her “take command” attitude when trauma care was involved. Whether she was working as a general floor nurse, assisting with special procedures, teaching new nurses, or managing as the Director of Nurses, she took her station seriously and discharged her duties to the best of her ability.

Beverly was a member of the congregation at Brookfield Baptist Church. Her involvement with her Christian faith took on many forms. Singing in the church choir, going on mission trips, and instructing youth were fulfilling Beverly’s desire to share God’s love and His promise for life everlasting.

Mrs. Spencer is survived by her husband of 61 years, Chauncey Spencer of Alapaha, GA. Her children are all residents of Georgia: Sonya (Bill) Twomey of Adel; Michael (Kara) Spencer of Waverly; Jason (Richard Martin) Spencer of Monroe; and Jeremy (Renee) Spencer of Monroe.

Grandchildren Katherine Twomey; Denton Spencer; Erin Twomey Partin (Trent); Alexandria Spencer; 2nd Class Petty Officer Thomas Spencer, USN; Caroline Twomey; Addison Spencer; and Delaney Spencer.

Also, a brother, Freddie (Cindy) Ziegler of Stafford, VA; and two sisters, Bonnie Cronin of Adel, GA, and Vanessa Rister of Carmi, IL; surviving brothers-in-law and their families include Paul Robert Spencer of Loves Park, IL; Roger (Janet) Spencer of Morehead City, NC; and Gary (Jan) Spencer of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews and extended family who she loved dearly.

Beverly was preceded in death by her in-laws Paul and Esther Spencer of Carmi, Illinois; her sister, Paula Ziegler Verdon; her brother-in-law, Don Spencer and his wife, Lynn; as well as her sister-in-law, Evelyn Spencer.
