William “Bill” Walter Wood – 68 of Quitman, Georgia passed away on Sunday May 10, 2020 in the South Georgia Medical Center of Valdosta, Georgia. Bill was born on February 27, 1952 in Belleview, FL to the late Eva Mae (Simpson) and William Earl Wood. He was a high school graduate of Lowndes County High School and worked in the railroad business most of his life, where he was the Terminal Train Master Supervisor at CSX; for the last seventeen years of his life he was known as “Bill the Shrimp Man”. He was a loving husband, father, and papa. He loved to watch the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and Lowndes County Vikings. He was very avid in the Lowndes County Touchdown Club as well. Bill also loved to grill and eat! He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bill Hunter; parents-in-law, Billy and Rosa Lee Ellenberg.
Survivors include loving wife of 44 years, Diana E. Wood of Quitman, GA; Sons: Brad Wood of Valdosta, GA, Brian Wood of Lake Park, GA; Grandsons: Riley Wood and Cale Wood, both of Lake Park, GA; Brother, Ervin Wood and wife, Margaret of Brooks County; Sisters: Dale W. Hodges and husband, David of Lake Park, GA, Kay W. Hunter of Lake Park, GA; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Joy Ellenberg of Brooks County, Bernie Ellenberg and wife, Brenda of Valdosta, GA, Ken Ellenberg and wife, Sherrill of Hahira, GA, Randy Ellenberg and wife, Connie of Lake Park, GA.
A private family graveside service to honor Bill’s life will be held Wednesday May 13, 2020 in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Special messages may be left to the family at
