Brenda Williams Hatcher – 69
A Georgia native and resident of Valdosta since 1982, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at her residence after a brief illness. Born Brenda Sue Williams on March 15, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Vasti and Sallie James Williams of Savannah, GA. After graduating from Groves High School, she attended Norman Junior College, and then worked at Southland Oil Company.
In her early years, Mrs. Hatcher was involved in many church activities, including directing adult and children's choirs and was supportive and involved in her children's school activities and programs.
On any given day, she could be found landscaping and maintaining her beautiful yard, refinishing furniture, producing wooden crafts in her workshop, doing pencil drawings of family homes, restoring vintage automobiles, stripping, painting and refurbishing their home in the historical district of Valdosta.
In 1986 Mrs. Hatcher organized a group known as The Golden Strummers. She taught this group of senior citizens to play the ukulele. With these skills, a keyboardist, a banjo player and the many talents of the group, they entertained audiences in nursing homes, churches and conferences with instruments, singing and skits. This group became like family and Mrs. Hatcher always found time to minister to them as well as to her friends and neighbors with a cooked meal, a call or a visit.
In 1996 Mrs. Hatcher formed Valdosta Area Tours and enjoyed giving local and out of town guests a taste of Valdosta and its many historical attractions.
