Burma Tomlin Pierce, 97, of Lakeland, GA ended her blessed life on Earth Friday, August 29, 2014. She was born in Toombs County, GA on June 20, 1917 to the late Louis and Lula Tomlin. Burma retired as an Educator after 35 years of serving the children of Lanier County and was a charter member of Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a lifelong member of Unity United Methodist Church where she dearly loved her church family. She met and married the love of her life, Dilmus Pierce. The couple was blessed to be married for 60 years. After 11 years of marriage, God blessed them with "their one and only" child, JoNan! Burma lived her life as a true Christian and was able to remain in her home for 63 years.
Burma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoNan and Wesley Holbrook; grandchildren, Neil Holbrook, Coby Jessica Holbrook, and Holly Justin Stouppe; great-grandchildren, Carly, Dylan, Reid, Ryder Holbrook and Jenner Stouppe. One sister, Marcia Joslin from LaBelle, FL; brother and sister-in-laws, McDonald and Betty Pierce of Lakeland, Howard and Dot Ray of Nashville, Jessie Hudson of Valdosta, and Curtis and Rose Jones of Lyons, GA and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dilmus Pierce; two brothers Kenneth and Loy Tomlin and two sisters Tommye Jones and Bobbye Tomlin.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, September 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Unity United Methodist Church in Lakeland with the Reverend Carl Howard, Tony Crosby, Jack Varnell and Bobby Pierce. Burail will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Burma will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Music Funeral Home of Lakeland.
