Carlis Randolph Stephens, 93 years old, of Barney, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center. Carlis was born on April 9, 1930, in Cook County, Georgia, to James M. and Minnie Lee (Hewitt) Stephens. He enjoyed traveling and fishing, loved the mountains, picking the guitar, and playing the harmonica. Carlis was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sadie Stephens, his daughter Judy Evett, five brothers and two sisters.
Carlis is survived by his son Carlis M. Stephens (Phyllis); two daughters: Robbie Hiers (Cecil) and Kathy Griffin; nine grandchildren: Stephen Hiers (Chrissy), Carla Delk (Brian), David Griffin (Casie), Shad Stephens (Lacey), Kevin Hiers (Jennifer), Clint Griffin (Amanda), Chrystal Powell (Timothy), William Evett (Bing), and Shane Stephens (Caroline); twenty-two great-grandchildren: Carrilee Overy (Brock), Shelby Hiers, Gavin Hiers (McKenzie), Luke Hiers, Heather Griffin, Haley Griffin, Hope Griffin, David Griffin III, Matt Griffin, Hayden Griffin, Hallie Mae Griffin, Katherine Hiers, Caroline Hiers, Audrey Hiers, Aubree Delk, Dalton Stephens, Brogen Stephens, Collin Stephens, Greer Stephens, Sawyer Stephens, Titus Powell, and Gunner Evett; four great-great-grandchildren: Andrew Overy, Beau Overy, Lynn Marie Overy, and Cecil Hiers; son-in-law, Ralph Evett; three sisters-in-law: Myrtle Williams, Ruth Williams, and Leila Garland; and one brother-in-law Tony Williams (Gail); several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 3, 2023, Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Friday 3, 2023 at the cemetery. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at
