Charles Preston Ganas Sr.

Charles Preston Ganas, Sr. – 85 passed away peacefully Thursday, January 28 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 26, 1935 to the late Buck and Lillie Ganas in Naylor, GA. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Ann Ganas; father and mother-in-law, Homer and Mattie Dixon; sister, Evelyn Register (Harris); brother, Louis Ganas; brothers-in-law: Chandler Joyce, Carl Law, and Scottie Stewart and sister-in-law, Mary Stewart.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine and a half years, Clara Dixon Ganas of Naylor, GA;
Son and Daughter-in-law, Craig Ganas (Stephanie) of Homerville, GA;
Grandchildren: Sarah Ganas, Buck Ganas, Monica Lee and husband Austin, Bankes Ganas;
A brand-new great grandson, Preston Taylor Lee;
Sisters: Grace Smith and husband Albert of Naylor, GA, Jane Law of Valdosta, GA;
Brother, Danny Ganas and wife Wanda of Lake Park, GA;
A number of nieces and nephews.
Charles was an active member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Naylor, GA where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir up until his death.
He and Clara, along with their son, Chuck owned and operated Ganas Hardware for 42 years. He also served on the board of directors for The Farmers and Merchants Bank in Lakeland, Georgia for 17 years.
Charles enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, and his farm. In his earlier years, he was an avid golfer, playing weekly with his numerous golfing buddies.
He served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years, where he made lifelong friends and relationships. For many years after his military time, his family and 3 of his army friends and families vacationed together during the summer.
He will be deeply missed by his family, many friends and acquaintances.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday February 9, 2021 in the Good Hope Baptist Church in Naylor, Georgia with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM at the church. The family will accept flowers, but asks that donations be made to the Good Hope Baptist Cemetery Fund 6758 Good Hope Circle Naylor, GA 31641. The family has asked that social distancing practices be enforced and masks are highly recommended.
Rev. Austin Deloach, Rev. Joseph Carter, and Rev. Dewayne Stokes will officiate the funeral.
The Ganas family is being served by the caring and professional staff of Music Funeral Services, Lakeland.
