Charles Theo Scarborough, Sr. – 79
Of Valdosta passed away Monday, August 31, 2009 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Berrien County on April 1, 1930 to the late Paul Allen and Eula Lee Register Scarborough. He graduated from Hahira High School in 1947 and returned to Lowndes County after retiring from the Education profession in 1985. Mr. Scarborough was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Scarborough was a member of the NEA, GAE, American Legion and Calvary Baptist Church. He has taught Sunday school classes since the early 1960's. He has been an ordained Deacon since 1963. He has been active in the Retired Association of Educators having served as an officer in various capacities, including President two different terms. He also has served as president, secretary, and treasurer of the Lions Club in Lakeland and Hazlehurst. Mr. Scarborough is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Scarborough.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 4, 2009 in the Mt. Pleasant/Byrd Baptist Church in Denton, GA, Jeff Davis County, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Scarborough will lie in state one hour prior to services at Mt Pleasant/Byrd Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the funeral home.
