Rodney Young, 72, of Valdosta, GA, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by love. He was born on February 6, 1953, in Valdosta, GA to the late George Young and Eva Mae (Cauthan) Willis. His passing came quickly, but the life he lived and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Rodney was a kind, funny, and deeply giving man. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome, often through laughter and genuine conversation. He loved hard and fully, and his heart was evident in everything he did.
For 25 years, Rodney shared a beautiful life with his wife, Phyllis. Their marriage was built on love and devotion; the bond they shared was something truly special. Together, they created a life full of memories, laughter, and unwavering support.
He worked in the dry wall business for over 40 years, including many years working side by side with his son, Chuck. Rodney took great pride in his work and passions. The quality of his craftsmanship earned him deep respect throughout the industry and brought numerous friendships along the way.
He had many special interests, including drag racing and the car he poured so much of himself into. Many weekends were spent at the track in Cecil, where Rodney could be found doing what he loved most, racing and enjoying the camaraderie that came with it. At home, his shop was a place filled with his collections, tools, and projects in progress. It’s a special space where you could always find Rodney fixing, building, or tinkering with something he loved. He also enjoyed collecting vintage items, appreciating not just the pieces themselves but the history and stories behind them. These passions reflected his attention to detail and his appreciation for craftsmanship and nostalgia.
Above all, Rodney loved his family and friends. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. His presence filled rooms, and his absence will be felt deeply.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; daughter, Brandi Booth (Kevin) of Brooks County, GA; son, Charles “Chuck” Rodney Young, Jr. (Kelly) of Hahira, GA; son, Joe Brady of Brooks County, GA; granddaughter, Ansleigh Tyson (Trey) of Lake Park, GA; granddaughter, Graceigh Booth of Brooks County, GA; grandson, Chaz Brady (Madi) of Thomasville, GA; one great grandchild, Wrenlee; sister, Dawn Jones (Danny) of Rogersville, TN; sister, Pam Griffin (Tommy) of Hahira, GA, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
