MSgt. Darrel A. Fox, 74 of Valdosta passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Darrel was born on April 16, 1949 to the late Ardith and Paul Fox in Oil City, PA. He is a veteran of 24 years with the United States Air Force having joined in 1969 as a management analyst until 1991, where he served with the civil service for an additional 21 years until his retirement in 2014. Darrel was known as a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as a kind and patient person who befriended everyone. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing pool and cards, and had a knack for cooking, especially his beef jerky. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Dennis Fox; brother, Norman Fox; sisters, Edith Woodcock and Connie Fox; in-laws, Patricia and Dutch Wardwell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Cheri Jo Fox of Valdosta, GA; daughters, Amy Lynn Darling (Bug) of Statenville, GA, Alyssa Michelle Griffin (Pooh) of Watford City, ND, Nicole Fox of Omaha, NE and Milissa Jones of Great Falls, MT; son in-laws, John Darling and James Griffin; grandchildren, Trevor Kane Darling, Holly Jo Darling, Anderson Griffin, Satin Fox, Brittany Fox and Randall Fox; brother, Paul (Marcia) Fox; mother in-law, Ellie Wardwell; sister and brother in-laws, Randy (Karen) Wardwell, Donnie (Gina) Wardwell, Kim Thomas, Phillip (Gidget) Wardwell; special cousin, Kay Sutton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the chapel of Music Funeral Services located on 3831 N. Valdosta Rd. Valdosta, GA. The family will receive guests from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service for visitation. The family asks that donations be made to the Mayo Lung Transplant Unit at 4500 San Pablo Rd. S.
