Of Hahira, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia, after a lengthy illness. She was born to the late Earnest Smith and Lois Smith (Stubbs) on March 17, 1954, in Hahira, Georgia. Deborah was a warm and nurturing soul, always radiating love and care to those around her. She had an outgoing, vibrant personality and never met a stranger—her kindness made her approachable and loved by all. A true Elvis fan, she would light up at the mention of the King’s music. Traveling was another of her great passions, and she especially loved exploring the serene beauty of the mountains, where she could connect with nature and find peace in the breathtaking landscapes. Deborah is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her loving husband of 42 years, Jimmy Barger, of Hahira, Georgia; son Richard Mears (Megan) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren Chelsea Elliott, Chase Mears, Kristin Hess, and Zoey Hess; sister and brother-in-law Pam Gaeta (Sam) of New Orleans; nephew Shane Gaeta; and a number of extended family members and friends.
