Dewey Tillman "D. T." Stalvey, 79

Dewey Tillman "D. T." Stalvey, 79, of Barney, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Stalvey was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a forest products raw materials buyer for Koppers Company, Inc., of Pittsburg, PA. He retired in 1986. He was a member and deacon of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stalvey was born in Homerville, Georgia, on August 31, 1929, to the late William B. and Alice Griffis Stalvey.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Joan Register Stalvey. Additional survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gregory Cook of Jesup; one son and daughter-in-law, Dewey and Sheryl Stalvey of Moultrie; one grandson, Colin Smith of New York City; six granddaughters, Kristen Gilbert and husband Clay of Fort Worth; Erin Waldee and husband Stephen of Augusta; Jordan Cook of Jesup; Megan Stalvey of Valdosta; Lauren Stalvey of Moultrie; Betzy Cook of Jesup; two great-grandchildren, Marilyn Waldee of Augusta; and Bryan Gilbert of Fort Worth. One brother survives him, W. R. Stalvey of Homerville; as well as two sisters, Verna Lee Futch of Lake City, FL; and Iona Smith of Homerville; one sister-in-law, Juanita Stalvey of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews. One brother, Leslie Marvin Stalvey of Homerville, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Shiloh Congregational Methodist Church in Homerville, Georgia, with Rev. Dewey T. Stalvey, Jr., officiating.
