Capt. Donald Cox – 54

Of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday morning October 12, 2004 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Mr. Cox was born in Lanier County and had lived most of his life in Valdosta. He attended Bethany Baptist Church. Mr. Cox served 30 years with the Valdosta Police Department working his way through the ranks from patrol officer to Captain. During his tenure at the VPD, Captian Cox was instrumental in organizing the first ever Citizen’s Police Academy at the VPD. Finishing up his years at the VPD, he served as administrative assistant to the Chief of Police. His Father, William Cox precedes him in Death.

Funeral Services were held Friday, October 15, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. in the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland. Mr. Cox will be placed in the Church one hour prior to service. Visitation will begin Thursday, October 14, 2004 after 3:00 P.M. with the Family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In Lieu of Flowers please make donations to Hospice of South Georgia, 205 Woodrow Wilson Dr., Valdosta, Ga. or Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers Association, 4110 Amberley Trail, Valdosta, Ga. 31602.
