Donald M. Pittman
Donald Martin Pittman 80, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Alleghany General Hospital in Pittsburg PA. after a short illness.
He was born in Waycross, GA, on September 15, 1930 and was a current resident of McAlpin, Florida. His parents were the late Desso Pittman and Macy Beverly Pittman of Valdosta.
He spent the majority of his life driving trucks, racing and training thoroughbred horses. He was a familiar face at many tracks in the eastern U.S., winning numerous races. He was the winner of the 12th running of the $50, 000 Tampa Bay Breeders Cup with a horse named Ship Liner. Not only was he an avid horseman, he also helped raise seven rescue dogs who loved him dearly.
Survivors include his wife Deborah Jamie Pittman whom he married in November, 1991. Other survivors include a daughter Martiel Huffman of Albany, GA. , one grandson, Jason Huffman, and four sisters, Kathleen Macy Hutchinson Jack of Valdosta, Jean P. Griffin Terry of Fernandina Beach, Fl. Wanda Carter Henry of Hephzibah, GA. and Lovie Pittman of Valdosta. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lamar Pittman and a sister Barbara Ann Boyett.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 2, 2011 in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
