Dora Virginia Martin of Lake Park, Georgia, age 88 passed from this life on, Sunday, February 16, 2020. She was born on June 15, 1931 to the late Charlie Frank and Dora Jane Altman. She was the last of 9 siblings.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, and was baptized by Brother Tony Ash, a beloved minister. She was a devoted homemaker, who dearly loved her family. Her God-given talents were taking care of children and the elderly. In her years, she was the director of Wonderland Playskool, a children’s daycare. She was also employed with Eldercare of Valdosta for several years, until her health forced her into early retirement. She was a longtime loyal supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Martin, Sr.; Son, William Martin, Sr.; and Son-in-Law, Kenneth Rushing.
She leaves behind one daughter, Peggy M. Rushing; two sons: Jim Martin, Jr and wife Kim of Sparks, Georgia and Tommy Dale McAbee and husband Jon of Gastonia, North Carolina. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two special nieces: Judy Davis and Jan Pepper, along with several other nieces and nephews dear to her heart. She also leaves behind three very special friends: Joel Williams, Ann Williams Hall, and Cindy McFae.
A special thank you to Lake Haven staff and Pruitt Health Hospice for their marvelous support. Graveside Services will be at the Sunset Hill Cemetery at 11 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2020. The Martin family is being cared for by the compassionate staff of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.
