Doris Naomi Hendley Ganas, age 93, of Lakeland, Georgia, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022. She was born on December 24, 1928 to the late Manasseh “Nass” and Lilla Mae Pierce Hendley by Dr. Lewis Smith in Lanier County. She dedicated her life to helping others professionally and personally. She was a member of Unity United Methodist Church.
“As a child, I started school at Crisp thru the 9th grade, transferred to Lanier County High school and graduated June 1946. The following year I taught school at Crisp for one term. After this, I went with Mrs. Lewis Smith to Little and Griffin Hospital in Valdosta to start college at Valdosta State and work at the hospital. The funds did not come through all we girls stated working at the hospital. On June 28, 1948, I married Cecil Aldine Ganas youngest child of John J. and Nora Lee Downing Ganas whom I dated since a junior in high school. In 1950 we built a house in Lakeland on Temple Street. Aldine continued barbering and I stated work part time with Dr. I. S. Giddens. During this time, I attend GA-FL Business College and got a degree in Business Administration. In 1952, I attended the first License Practical Nurse classes at South Georgia Medical Hospital and received my degree and cap. In 1953, I stated working full time for Dr. I. S. Giddens as his office nurse and receptionist. I worked 25 years in his office.”
Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock am, Monday, September 19, 2022 at Unity United Methodist Church, Lakeland, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock pm on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Music Funeral Services in Lakeland, Georgia.
