Dowell Murray Tomlinson

Dowell Murray Tomlinson- 82 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Lakeland Villas after a Lengthy illness. He was born on April 22, 1938 in Echols County, Georgia to the late Ivey Scranton and Pearl (Deloach) Tomlinson. Murray graduated from Naylor High School. He served in the United States Navy and he was stationed on the U. S. S. Shangrila (CVA-38). He began his food industry career with Pantry Pride Grocery Stores working as the Northwest Florida and South Georgia District Manager. Following the closing of Pantry Pride, he and his wife, Polly moved home to Lakeland and he worked as the manager of all of Cations Food Stores. After many years in the grocery business, ill health forced him to retire. He enjoyed playing golf and watching Georgia football. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite, Shriner, and a Kiwanis club member in Panama City, FL. Murray served on the board of directors for the Salvation Army in Panama City, FL. He was Baptist by faith. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Caswell Tomlinson.

His survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Polly Eleanor Tomlinson of Valdosta, Georgia; 2 daughters: Sheila Tomlinson of Valdosta, Georgia, Kathy Dennis of Jacksonville, Florida; 2 grandsons: Andrew Dennis and Aaron Dennis of Jacksonville, FL; Niece: Dawn Burkhart of Valdosta, Georgia; 2 Nephews: Jon Scott Burkhart(Tammy) of Montgomery, Alabama, Mark Burkhart of Valdosta, Georgia and a number of Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Great Great Nieces and Great Great Nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Riverview Memorial Gardens, 3945 N. Valdosta Rd, Valdosta, Georgia 31602. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Music Funeral Services.
