Of Valdosta passed away Monday, June 16, 2008 in Valdosta, GA. Mr. Bland was born in Madison County, FL on March 6, 1919 to the late James K. & Edna L. Bland. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1937. Following graduation he joined the United States Army Air Corps where he served during WWII in the Pacific. He was employed by The Valdosta Daily Times from 1946 until his retirement in 1983. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, J.K. and Lucy Bland, and mother-in-law, Willa Mae Stripling.
Mr. Bland is survived by his: wife of sixty-five years, Dorothy Bland, Valdosta, GA, sons & daughters-in-law James L. & Gail Bland, Kennesaw, GA, Richard L. & Serie Bland, Signal Mountain, TN, W. Michael & Brenda Bland, Valdosta, GA, grandsons, Jay Bland & Jeff Bland, both of Kennesaw, GA, Jason Bland, Valdosta, GA, granddaughters, Jennifer & Nathan Salvemini, England, Kelli Bland, Hixson, TN, Catherine Bland, Valdosta, GA, great grandsons, Nico David Salvemini and Jayce Alexander Salvemini, both of England, Nieces, Betty & Alex Meri'akri, Gloria & Frank Roberts, Sharon & Rick Abbott, numerous great nieces and nephew
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 19, 2008 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with Dr. Ken Alford and Rev. charlie Scarborough of Crossroads Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the funeral home. .
