Of Valdosta passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 1, 1928 in Brooks County to the late Ed & Dophie Lou Rentz Powell. She was a member of Bemiss Road Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. Before retiring she worked as a waitress for Pic & Save, Kress Five & Dime, and Roses. Mrs. Benavides is preceded in death by her first husband, James Howell Shaffer.
Survivors include: Husband, Nicanor Benavides, Valdosta, GA, 3 Sons & Daughters-in-law, James & Elaine Shaffer, Valdosta, GA, Roy & Jackie Shaffer, Hallsville, TX, Gerald & Priscilla Shaffer, Lobelville, TN, A number of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews
Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 23, 2007 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with Dr. Danny Edwards officiating. Burial w followed in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
