Lucile Gaskins, age 93, of Lakeland, Georgia passed away on November 14, 2020, after years of declining health. She was the daughter of Willie Letha Royals and Edna Hughes Royals of Berrien County.
Lucile was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She loved her Lord and Savior. She was a wonderful, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She prepared many Sunday feasts for family and friends. Her meals and cakes are still mentioned today. She treated everyone like family. Lucile worked tirelessly everyday as a homemaker and wife of a farmer. She loved working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers. In the community she was well known as a talented seamstress who created patterns out of the newspaper to do alterations and making beautiful gowns for weddings. Lucile had a great sense of humor. She always enjoyed sharing a funny joke. In her later years, she made many friends among the residents and staff at Lake Haven Nursing Home. She loved her church family at the First Baptist Church of Ray City.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John A. Gaskins; her two sons: Donald Gaskins and Jerry Gaskins; brothers and sisters-in-law: Murel Royals, Letha (Helen) Royals, Winston (Mary Nell) Royals, Wyman Royals, Wonnie (Mary) Royals, and Mildred Royals.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law: John D. (Cindy) Gaskins and Ted (Mickey) Gaskins all of Valdosta, GA; a daughter-in-law, Joan Gaskins of Nashville, GA; twelve grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Lisa (Dale) Harper, Jennifer Gaskins, Sonya (Adam) Lawlor, April (Brandon) Haddock, Brian (Heather) Gaskins, Kari Gaskins (Mike Tappan), Patrick (Amber) Gaskins, Chelsee Morin, Laurie Gaskins, Jason (Erin) Gaskins, Twila (Clabe) Hall, Mark (Erica) Gaskins, Terri Collier, Renee Tomlinson, and Katie (Lloyd) Carter; 21 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by one brother and three sisters-in-law, James D. Royals, Betty Jo Royals, Peggy Royals, and Joyce Royals.
Services for Lucile will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 18, 2020 in the First Baptist Church of Ray City with interment to follow in the church cemetery in Berrien County, Georgia. The family will see friends one hour prior to services. Messages of sympathy can be left at
