Ella “Wonnie” Brogdon was born in Berrien County on February 22, 1932 to the late Rachel and Sodie Greene. Wonnie, as she was affectionately called at an early age, was the next to youngest in their family of eight. Ella was a typical child in a small town and was taught by her parents from an early age about strong morals and the value of family. This fueled her anticipation of being married, having children, cooking, cleaning, and most of all being a loving, Godly wife.
On June 20, 1948, she married James Ralph “J.R.” Brogdon. Soon after their marriage, the family Ella has longed for finally came. She became the pastor at Calvary Temple Church in Valdosta starting in 1982. Through this role as pastor, Ella fulfilled a deep desire to change lives and make a difference in many lives.
Her family became astonished at her wisdom in always knowing what to say and her ability to remember so many Bible verses that mimicked her message. She made sense, not just to her family but to hundreds of people. Her loved ones saw her become an instrument of God, and she was used for her knowledge by so many. Her passion became touching lives through preaching the Gospel. She also comforted families and oversaw funerals. She helped others to make sense of such topics such as death, life, marriage, and the importance of family. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Brogdon; son, Tim Brogdon and numerous other family members.
She is survived by her son, Randy Brogdon and wife Kellie of Valdosta, GA; Daughter-in-law, Margaret Brogdon of Valdosta, GA; Grandchildren: Jarrod Brogdon (April), Amy Draper (Sean), Maranda Douglas (Matthew), Ben Brogdon (Nikki); Great Grandchildren: Gavin and Braxton Draper, Taylor, Ella, Hardy Douglas and Blakely Brogdon, Kaden and Kole Cowart and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
