Ellen Valentine Altman Wainright Middlebrooks

Mrs. Middlebrooks, age 84 and a resident of Valdosta, Georgia, died Sunday, February 20, 2005 after a lengthy illness. For the past four years, she had made her home at The Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Georgia residing in the McElroy wing where she served as President of the Residents Council. Mrs. Middlebrooks was a native of Charlton County, Ga, where she was born February 14th , 1921, to the late Rev. Bennie A. Altman and Mattie L. Mizell Altman.
She lived in the Valdosta, GA. area for the past 55 years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was very active in her church throughout her life.
Mrs. Middlebrooks retired from Sears Roebuck & Company as manager of the boy’s department where she received manager of the month award numerous times. She worked a number of years at Owens-Illinois Bag Plant and was a Avon Sales Representative.
Survivors include one son and daughter- in- law, Jimmy A. and Jimmie R. Wainright of Valdosta; one stepson, Leland Middlebrooks Barbara of Fayetteville, Tenn.; four stepdaughters: Mary Lee Jones Roy of Prattville, Ala, Barbara Dade Bob of Huntsville, Ala., Betty Voight Al of Valdosta and Patsy Soper Richard of Cairo, Ga.; one sister, Althea Dasher of Garden City, Ga.; two brothers: Hiram A. Altman Linda Faye of Ringgold, Ga. And James W. Altman Pearl of Folkston, Ga.; four grandchildren: Tony Wainright Shannon, Scott Wainwright Charlotte, Christine Wainright Howell Michael all of Valdosta;and Bobby Dracy Wainright of Hartwell; four great-grandchildren: Lesley Elizabeth Wainright, Landon Scott Wainright, Altman and Evelyn Howell, all of Valdosta; one brother-in-law, Dewitt Wainright Ester of Folkston, GA. and one sister-in-law, Louise Wainright Carter Don of Jacksonville, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Wade Freeman of the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Ga.
Mrs. Middlebrooks was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerome Alva Wainright, twin daughters: Kaye Lou and Fay Lenora Wainright; two sons: Bobby Allen Wainright and Larry Jerome Wainright; one daughter-in-law, Dean Bartlett Wainright; her second husband, Tuner Bradford Middlebrooks; four sisters: Bennie Barfield of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeanette Lane of Folkston, GA., Ida Mae Anderson of Jesup, Ga. and Myrene Joyner of Blackshear, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with the Reverends Austin Deloach, Jr., Dean Spivey and Richard Soper officiating. Interment followed in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to South Georgia Medical Center Foundation for Dasher Memorial Heart Center, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, Ga. 31603.
