Emily Lewis Ingram
Age 90, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 7, 1934, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Walter Lewis and Johnella (Thompson) Seymour. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Walter Seymour, Jr., and two sisters: Joyce Ann Seymour and Johnella “Johnnie” Golden.
Emily was a joyful soul whose love for gospel music reflected her deep devotion to God. She was known as a powerful woman of faith, always ready to encourage others through prayer and a kind word. Emily faithfully served as a prayer intercessor and was a cherished member of Life Journey Fellowship Church, where she also sang on the praise team and led worship with a heart full of passion. Her voice and spirit lifted hearts and drew people closer to God. Beyond her ministry, Emily’s creativity and caring nature led her to attend cosmetology school. Her faith, warmth, and unwavering love for people will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, James Delander Ingram, of Valdosta, Georgia. She is also survived by three daughters: Denese Ingram of Memphis, Tennessee; Karen Gilyard (David) of Valdosta, Georgia; and Kimberly Irvin (Rufus) of Valdosta, Georgia; two step children: Karen Mays of Memphis, Tennessee, and Kevin Williams (Meredith) of Rosharon, Texas; grandchildren: Stephen James Harris, Kristen Chambers (Marcus), Kaylyn Council (Corey), David Anthony Gilyard, and Cameron Irvin; great grandchildren: Marcus Chambers, Jr., and Emilia Chambers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at The Rock Church, 1401 Old ClyattvilleRd, Valdosta, GA 31601 with burial to follow in Memphis, Tennessee at the West Tennessee State Veteran Cemetery 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd Memphis, TN 38125 on Tuesday September 2, 2025 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta.
