Of Homerville, GA passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Polk Co, FL on September 16, 1934, to the late Elliott and Alma Gavin Thornton and had lived in Clinch Co. for the past 41 years. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 44 years, Rosemary Thornton, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors Include: 2 brothers, Vernon Thornton , Homerville, GA, Ellis Thornton, Commerce, GA; sister, Jessie Respress, Frostproof, FL; 3 daughters and son-in-law, Jean Griffis, Middleburg, FL, Barbara & Todd O'Guin, Lakeland, GA, Karen Leviton, Waycross, GA; 8 Grandchildren: Jason & BJ Gilbreth, Johnny & Melissa Gilbreth, Jennifer & Tim Ayers, Jeremy Gilbreth, Daniel Turner, Tina & Jeffrey Lane, Alyx Leviton, Aaran Leviton, Anna O'Guin, Jared O'Guin & Jessica O'Guin; 16 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Barbara Chitty.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Victory Methodist Church, 5062 Booth Church Rd., Manor, GA 31550 with burial in Pine Forest Cemetery in Homerville. Mr. Thornton will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to services. The family will receive friends at Victory Methodist Church on Friday afternoon, March 11, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
