Ethel “Maude” Hesters, 93,
of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Tifton, Georgia at The Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 20, 1931, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late William Allen James and Ruby Louise (Lisenby) James George. She had a passion for fishing and found joy in preparing delicious meals for her family—meals that were always made with love and deeply enjoyed by everyone at the table. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Johnny “Ward” Hesters, and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hesters. Survivors include: Son and daughter-in-law: Jim Hesters (Charlotte) of Hahira, Georgia Daughter and son-in-law: Louise Godwin (Danny) of Jefferson, Georgia; Grandchildren: Deena Evans (Allen), James Godwin (Maddy), J.J. Hesters (Kelly), Jodi Brannen (Ben). Great-grandchildren: Robby Evans, Rachel Evans, Channing Godwin, Kayden Hesters, Hampton Hesters, Lilly Brannen, Abby Brannen; Sisters: Ann Scozinski of Hotchkiss, Colorado, and Charlotte Hamby of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM at the cemetery.
