Of Valdosta, GA passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at his residence. He was born October 11, 1918 in Greensboro, GA to the late Frederick William & Mary Lou Hutchinson Atkinson. He served our country in the United States Army during WW II. Before his service to our country he obtained a Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. Later he attended the University of Kentucky where he received his Master's Degree in Economics and Agriculture there he found the love of his life Dorothy Hoffeld Atkinson. After his service to our country he used his education as a farmer to support his family. He was a faithful member and a deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church near Barretts, GA for many years. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Paul Atkinson and Bernie Atkinson, 3 Brothers Wellington Atkinson, Monroe Atkinson, and Julian Atkinson, as well as 2 Sisters Virginia Mcdonald and Evelyn Touchton.
Survivors Include:Wife of 73 years; Dorothy Hoffeld Atkinson of Barretts Community, GA, Son & Daughter-in-Law; F. W. "Billy" Mary Atkinson of Valdosta, GA, Grandsons; William Virginia Atkinson of Lake Park, GA, George Lisa Atkinson of McDonough, GA; Granddaughter; Mimi Daniel Merrett of Smyra, GA, Great Grandchildren- 7; Great Great Grandchildren- 1, and a number of Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in New Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the church 1 hour prior to services.Sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com .
