George Mcleod Banks

George McLeod Banks – 92 of Lakeland passed away on Saturday February 29, 2020 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta surrounded by his family. He was born on March 1, 1927 in Lakeland, GA to the late William Clifton and Anne Eleanor (McLeod) Banks, Sr. George served in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in business and finance. He worked as a banker and a farmer. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Anne (Banks) Harvey and 2 brothers, William C. Banks, Jr. and Charles L. Banks.
Survivors include: Wife of 61 years, Shirley Smith Banks of Lakeland, GA; 2 Sons, Clifton Banks of Lakeland, GA and Benjamin Banks of Tallahassee, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at Lakeland United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery (Mud Creek Cemetery). The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Mud Creek Cemetery Fund at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Lakeland or to the Lakeland United Methodist Church.
