George E. Nickell – 87 of Valdosta passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born on November 16, 1930 in Combs, Kentucky to the late George E. & Lillie (Stamper) Nickell. George served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic. Following his service, he began an over 30 year career with Civil Service. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. George loved being outdoors to include: gardening, washing the car, checking the mail and even driving the lawnmower to get his haircut. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maurine Nickell and brothers, Vincent Nickell, Alonzo Nickell, Tommy Nickell & Elmo Nickell.
Survivors Include: Wife, Mary Nickell, Valdosta; Daughters & Son-in-law: Marsha & Jerrell Votaw, Warrensburg, MO, Leah Lynch, Dorothy Nickell, Vikki Nickell, Kathy Johnston all of Valdosta; Sons & Daughters-in-law: Edwin & Susanne Nickell, Covington, GA, Chuck Judge, Valdosta, Larry & Donna Judge, Flowery Branch, GA; Grandchildren: Glynn Edison Norsworthy, Kathryn Norsworthy, Justin Votaw, Kevin Votaw, Aaron Lynch, Jada Nickell, Charles Judge (Shelby) & Tiffany Johnston; 2 Great Grandchildren that was the apple of his eye: Bella Carroll & Trinity Bennett; Sisters-in-law & Brothers-in-law: Emory & Nancy Futch, Valdosta, Elizabeth Goff, Valdosta, Opal Nickell, Deland, Fl, Edith Nickell, Kentucky; Special Friend: Jim Looney, Tennessee and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services. Sympathy may be expressed online at
