Gerald (Jerry) Edward Edmondson, 85, of Hahira, GA went to be with his Savior on Thursday,
October 26, 2023. He was the first born son of Howard Tillman Edmondson and Dixie Eugenia
Stringer, born February 17, 1938 in Hahira. Jerry ventured from his beloved home to serve his
country in the US Navy as an aircraft log clerk for four years, receiving a good conduct medal
for his dedicated service. After returning home Jerry worked for Valdosta Cigar and Tobacco
company for ten years while also following in his father’s footsteps and farming the land. He
grew tobacco, soy beans, corn, and peanuts in his corner of paradise nestled between Hahira
and Nashville. Later, Jerry went to work as a farm manager for Ferrell and Pam Scruggs of the
Scruggs Company. These years held many fond memories for Jerry in his retirement.
Jerry married Nancy Lou Clark on September 11, 1964 and affectionately referred to her as “my
bride” for the next 59 years. She was the love of his life. Nancy and Jerry were members of
Hahira United Methodist Church and enjoyed the simple things in life together. Most would refer
to him as a good ole country boy. He was proud to be a graduate of Pine Grove High School
and stayed in touch with his classmates over the years. Jerry was a true southern gentleman
with a smile that charmed everyone he met. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than being
outside working on his land with his family nearby. Falling leaves and rich, green grass were
pleasurable sights to one who loved to work in his yard. If you didn’t see him on his mower, you
could find him resting in a rocker on his front porch, admiring his day’s work. Jerry loved his
family, his friends, and his community. His family will remember him most for his quick wit, his
sweet spirit and his amazing hugs.
Jerry is survived by his son, Tracy Edmondson, son and daughter-in-law, Darby and Susan
Edmondson; grandchildren Josh, Tillman and Grace Edmondson; great grandchildren Josh Jr,
Leah, and Jackson Edmondson of Hahira, GA. In keeping with his wishes, a private family
memorial service will be held at Friendship Cemetery on a later date. His remaining ashes, as
well as those of his beloved bride, will be planted together in a living tree urn on their farm as a
memorial for their children and grandchildren. The family requests time to grieve the loss of their
beloved Jerry. Those who wish to honor his life may make a donation in his name to the charity
of their choice. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at
