Geraldine Edith Copeland Chason, 92, passed away on March 2, 2025, at her home in Lanier County. She lived a long life, giving God credit for all her many blessings.
A service for Mrs. Chason will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 at the First Baptist Church of Lakeland. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland.
Mrs. Chason was born in Lowndes County on November 25, 1932, to the late Ava Nell and Kelsie Copeland. She was the fifth of seven children.
She graduated from Pine Grove High School where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. Her connection to basketball led to a relationship with Willie Berg Chason, who became the love of her life. They were married on March 4, 1951, after which they embarked on a loving marriage totally supporting each other that continued until Mr. Chason’s death in 2020.
Thanks to many dedicated hours of hard work, they constructed a successful partnership, tilling the fertile soil of South Georgia as farmers and then entering a longtime relationship with Patten Seed Company of Lakeland, Ga. Mr. Chason traveled all over the South and the Caribbean, planting golf courses for Patten Seed, and Mrs. Chason was right behind him, taking care of children, cooking meals, handling finances, and running the household.
Mrs. Chason treasured her relationship with God and spent much time helping those in need through the ministry of First Baptist Church of Lakeland. Through her final days, she was intent on sharing the Good News about Jesus with others.
