Harry L. Chaney – 90
Of Lake Park passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on June 2, 1921 in Martinsville, Virginia to the late John Andrew & Bessie Rowland Chaney. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Hydruss. Mr. Chaney worked with Owens Illinois for over 32 years. He worked as a furniture maker and a carpenter in the early part of his life. He owned and operated Chaney's Lawn Care until his death. He was a member of Clyattville United Methodist Church. Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Barnes and Tootsie Turner, brothers, Jim Chaney and Robert Chaney, and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Dickerson Smith.
Mr. Chaney is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Theda Chaney, Lake Park, GA; children, Steven Victoria Chaney, Lake Park, GA, Twyla Don Selph, Lake Park, GA; grandchildren: Donya Anthony Coggins, Brent Christy Chaney, Lisa Chris Guest, Kilia Chad McLeod, Shannon Holley Chaney all of Lake Park, GA; great grandchildren: Ginna & Halleigh Chaney, Lindsay & Perry Coggins, Christian & Cason Guest, Caleb, Weston & Wyatt McLeod, Gareth Chaney, Rachel Woodward, Amanda Matt Hively; brothers-in-law, Grover Hudson Cindy Carter, Donald Edna Carter
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2012 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clyattville United Methodist Church, 5311 Railroad Street, Valdosta, GA 31601.
