Helen Mildred Smith Alcorn - 90
Of Valdosta, GA passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in the Lakehaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born on October 2, 1923 in Enigma, GA to Charlie Paul & Mamie Ira Abel Smith. She graduated from Enigma High School and also graduated from Georgia Southwestern College. She worked in a war factory in Macon during WWII. Her father served as the Enigma Postmaster and when he had a heart attack, she stepped up to take on his responsibilities. First and foremost, she was an amazing wife, mother, granny and servant of Jesus. She was a charter member of Greenwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband Cecil Alcorn, three brothers, and five sisters.
Her survivors include, 3 Daughters: Gail & Jimmy Dudley of White, GA; Erika & Kent Parks of Plano, TX; Sylvia & Bert Crowe of Tifton, GA; 2 Sons: Gerald & Linda Alcorn of Jonesboro, GA; Tony Alcorn of Valdosta, GA; 10 Grandchildren;
18 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Granddaughter; Sisters: Imogene Gates of Fort Pierce, FL and Naomi Overby of Duluth, GA; Sister-in-Law: Joyce Stevenson of Nashville, TN; and numerous Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2014 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service.
