Passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his residence. He was born January 1, 1947, in Hahira, Georgia to the late Homer P. Giddens Sr. and Margaret (Peggy) Stinson Giddens. The family moved from Ray City, Georgia to Lakeland, Georgia when Homer was 10 years old where he met his future wife, Sally Godwin, in the fifth grade. They married December 17, 1967, at Lakeland Methodist Church. They had one daughter, Corinne (Cory) in 1970.
Homer served in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia and served one tour of duty during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he and Sally returned to Lakeland, Georgia. He worked several jobs including parts manager at Murray Chevrolet and Patten Seed where he retired after 20 years. He was an avid hunter and was a member of the Cogdell Hunting Club for 30 years. He loved all his hunting buddies and enjoyed the time they spent together. He always took his faithful companion, Cuddles, the four-legged love of his life. Homer was a member of Unity Church where he said it was like being with family. His favorite verse was John 3:16 which gave him great comfort during his final days.
Homer is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; brother, Gene Giddens; first cousin, Phyllis Fletcher; and In-Laws, Andy and Cora Godwin. He is survived by his daughter, Cory; Sister, Kathryn Giddens; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Crymes Harrell; Niece Kelly (Larry) Beard; Nephew, Brad (Julie Harrell); Great nephews, Caleb Beard, and Walker Harrell; Great niece, Jenna Beard; and several nieces and nephews on Sally’s side of the family.
A memorial service celebrating Homer’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Unity Church, Lakeland, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, Unity Church, or to a charity of your choice.
