Homer Sydney "Butch" Miers Jr., of Nashville, Georgia, passed away on May 30, 2026, at SGMC, surrounded by the family and friends he loved so dearly and who loved him in return. He was born on October 21, 1959, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Homer Sydney Miers Sr. and Martha Miers.

After high school, Butch enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country proudly. He had a lifelong passion for boats and spent many years as a skilled boat mechanic, restoring boats and taking pride in seeing them back on the water. During Florida's booming boating industry, he built a respected career and even traveled to Greece through his work, creating lasting memories along the way. After returning to Georgia, he began a successful career in the security systems industry, where he enjoyed helping homeowners and businesses protect their property. Known for his mechanical talent and resourcefulness, Butch could fix almost anything and was always willing to help others.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Butch is preceded in death by his father, Homer Sydney Miers; his mother, Martha Richardson; and his stepfather, Jackie Richardson, who was much more than a stepfather—he was simply “Daddy.”
