Of Lakeland passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1934, in Jesup, IA. After the death of his mother, Margaret Irene (Markey) Fuller in 1941 when he was 6 years old, he was raised by his father, Harold Leroy Fuller and stepmother, Gelia Marie (Saunders) Fuller. Hughie spent twenty years as a pilot in the US Air Force, ten years as a Lanier Cunty farmer, six years as Lanier County’s first Magistrate Court Judge, 18 years as Lakeland Municipal Court Judge. He was a property tax appraiser for 13 years and a fee appraiser for five years. Obviously, there was an overlap. While in the Air Force he served In Korea, Viet Nam (where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Clusters), Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines. Hughie served in the Air Defense Command, Air Training Command, & Tactical Air Command as a pilot, pilot instructor, and Flight Examiner. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Wanda Louis Fuller, and brothers Raymond Lee Fuller and Ricky Alan Fuller.
Survivors include
Wife of 63 years, Nan (Murray) Fuller, Lakeland, GA, son and daughter-in-law Hughie Stephen and Lynn (Overstreet) Fuller, Lakeland, and a daughter and son-in-law Valerie Nan (Fuller) and James Cumbass, Douglas. There are seven grandchildren: Matthew (Jen) Fuller, Naylor, David Fuller, Valdosta, & Rebecca (Marlee) Fuller Morris, Portsmouth, VA, and Sara Barrett, Clemson, SC. Also, Tyrel (Aco) Whilden of Japan, Kyle Whilden (Tatjana Foremes) of Tifton, Tara (Michael) Carver of Douglas. There are 10 great-grandchildren: Karina & Leon Whilden of Japan, Isabella, Jonah, & Roman Fuller of Naylor, Aden Fuller of Valdosta, Annabelle and Abigail Whilden of Valdosta, Rowen and Griffen Edward Carver of Douglas. He is also survived by sisters, Donna (Hubert) Kopriva, Carol Fuller Ensley, Jennie (Tom) Perham of VA, brothers, Donald (Dixie) Fuller of Kansas, Tony and Neal Fuller of Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in the Lakeland chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Burnt Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com .
