Iris Jean Bailey, beloved mother, and grandmother died on May 25, 2020. She was born May 12, 1933 in Cabell County, West Virginia, to Paul E. Berry and Mabel Lawhorn Berry. She was the second of four daughters.
Married James C. (Jim) Bailey in 1950; and for the next twenty years, was a housewife, happily raising their children, and making the house a home. After her children were raised, Jean started working as a medical insurance clerk for Dr. Ken Wolfe at his Huntington practice.
In 1996, she moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Valdosta, Georgia and continued her work as an insurance clerk at Valdosta Medical Clinic. While in Valdosta, she pursued her love of collecting antiques, gardening, and travel, especially to Las Vegas. She was known for her beauty, grace, and hospitality; her home was always warm and welcoming.
She was pre-deceased by husband, Jim Bailey; parents, Paul, and Mabel Berry; and two sisters: Kathleen Berry, and Paula Hampton. She is survived by daughter, Deborah Bailey Raines and husband, Robert Raines; and grandsons: Ryan Raines, and Colter Raines. Also surviving is her son, Jeff Bailey, and daughter-in-law, Kim Gibson and her children, Amanda, and Hunter. Other family members include her sister, Patricia Keller, and several nieces and nephews. Special mention should be made to dear friends, Jo Adkins, and Michelle Lycans.
Per her request, she will be cremated, and her ashes mixed with Jim’s and then those combined ashes taken to the mountains of West Virginia to be scattered together. There are no services or memorials planned at this time. Sympathy may be expressed online at
