Jack Rihm passed away at the age of 83 on May 30, 2022, in Valdosta, GA. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His parents, Norbert and Mary Ann (Heim) Rihm; his oldest brother, David N. Rihm; and his beloved wife of 42 years, Judith Ann (Schultz) Rihm, preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother John (Bonnie) Rihm; five children: Cheryl (Rick) Shimkus, Jeff Rihm, Valerie (Tom) Lange, Danna Fogg, and Dara Rihm; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
As a Sergeant in the US Army, first Engineer Battalion, Company A, Headquarters, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Jack proudly served his country.
Jack was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic faith, as well as a 50-year member to The Valdosta Evening Lions Club, where he served as President twice, Zone Chairman twice, Leader Dog Chairman three times, and Secretary for ten years. He also placed five leader dogs in Valdosta.
At the age of 28, Jack was the youngest retailer/owner/operator of the largest IGA Foodliner grocery store in Ellettsville, Indiana. The community, employees, and customers respected him. Jack also owned and managed five home rentals in Lowndes County, GA, for 19 years. He started, owned, and operated the first chemical lawn care business, Lawn Patrol, for 9 years before he sold the business and retired. He led a full and satisfying life. He wishes for all family and friends to not be sad, but celebrate his contribution to them and his community.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, June 6, 2022, in the St. John Catholic Church, 800 Gornto Rd., Valdosta, GA, with burial following at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 – 11:15 am, June 6, 2022.
