J. Chester Conine 82
James Chester Conine of Lakeland passed away Friday, February 04, 2005 at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital. He was born in Lanier County to the late James D. and Minnie E. Conine on December 22, 1922. Mr. Conine was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Lakeland. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served as Lakelands first city carrier for the United States Postal Service where he worked for 30 years before his retirement. Upon his retirement he was serving as Postmaster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth N. Conine, sister, Jennie Conine, and two brothers, Wilbert Conine and Glynn Conine. Survivors Include: Daughter, Genese Bryant, Lakeland, Son and Daughter-in-law, David and Faye Conine, Athens, Ga., Grandchildren: Amanda Giddens, Christa and Sam Shaw, and Lydia Giddens, Great-Granddaughters: Summer Bradford and Jenna Shaw, two sisters, Martha Nell Thomas, Atlanta, Ga., Mary Waters, Jesup, Ga., Sister-in-law, Geneva Conine, Lakeland, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Gus and Susie Wilcox, Lakeland, A number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday February 6, 2005 in the First Baptist Church in Lakeland with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery.
