James Scott Ray

James “Jimmy” Scott Ray – 70 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021, in the South Georgia Medical Center after an illness. He was born on August 20, 1950 in Trion, Georgia to the late Doris Eugene (McGraw) and James Franklin Ray. Jimmy served in the United States Marine Corps as a Recon Marine and in the Georgia National Guard. Jimmy’s military service included tours in Vietnam and Afghanistan, additionally he also worked in the restaurant franchising business. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a skilled competitive shooter and was so proficient in the sport, he was able to reload his own ammunition. Jimmy loved animals and enjoyed fishing. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately called “Grumpa”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn Ray of Valdosta, Georgia; Children: James Anthony “Tony” Ray and wife Elisa of Valdosta, Georgia, Jean Nicole Ray of Long Beach, California; Sister, Holly A. Dever and husband Bill of Waco, Georgia; Brother, Jeffrey Ray and wife Becky of Bay City, Michigan; Grandchildren: Anna Victoria “Vicky” Ray of Valdosta, Georgia, James “Brandon” Ray of Valdosta Georgia;
Services for Jimmy will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday January 27, 2021 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services, Valdosta, where Full Military Honors will be rendered. Memorials may be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive Triangle, VA 22172 c/o Valdosta Toys for Tots.
