Jason Michael Smith, 49, of Lake Park, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Jason was born on February 2, 1977, at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, to his loving parents, Lester Smith and Susan Smith. Jason was a 1996 graduate of Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT.
He was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for those he loved. He worked in maintenance at The Home Depot, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, dedication, and willingness to help others. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy with honor and devotion. In addition, Jason served faithfully as a volunteer firefighter for 17 years, always willing to step forward when others were in need.
Jason had a remarkable gift for working with his hands. Whether it was carpentry, repairs, or building projects, he could create and fix just about anything. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. Jason was a devoted NASCAR fan who rarely missed a race and faithfully cheered on the New England Patriots every football season.
One of Jason’s greatest gifts was his sense of humor and exceptional personality. He loved making people laugh and had a way of bringing light into a room with his quick wit and presence. Though he could appear rough around the edges at times, those closest to him knew the truth of who he was beneath the surface — a kind-hearted, loving, and gentle soul. At his core, Jason was deeply compassionate, loyal, and giving, always willing to help the people he cared about. The depth of his heart and soul cannot fully be captured in words, but those who truly knew and loved him were blessed by the incredible man he was and the lasting impact he left on their lives.
Above all else, Jason loved God and loved his family deeply. He was a faithful Christian who attended Redland Church of Christ and was baptized into Christ on February 9, 2025. Jason faithfully served God, his family, and his church congregation without hesitation. Jason was united in marriage to the love of his life, Amie Lyn Smith, on April 26, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Smith, and his sister, Jennifer Smith.
Jason is survived by his loving wife, Amie Lyn Smith of Lake Park, Georgia; his children, Cadance Smith of Connecticut, Chase Smith of Connecticut, Kaela Fontana (Brandon) of Montana, Alexis Bemis of Lake Park, Georgia, and Tiffany Bemis of Mystic, Connecticut; his cherished grandchildren, Hailey, Anthony, Celia, and Charles; his mother, Susan Smith; his sister, Erica Saucier (Kevin) of Dudley, Massachusetts; his niece and nephew, Micayla Boots and Matthew Boots; and Matt, Ryan, and Ray, who held a special place in his life and were loved by him as family.
As per his wishes, Jason will be cremated, and no formal funeral services will be held. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Though deeply missed here, we rest in the hope of Christ and the promise of eternal life.
“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.” I Thessalonians 4:13-14 NKJV
